Paper: Columbian, The (Vancouver, WA) Title: Locals first in HTC age division Date: August 29, 2006 The Headhunters Pirates brought home a treasured first-place finish for teams of men 50-and-older in the 25th running of the Hood to Coast Relay. The team, organized by LaCamas Swim and Sport owner Bob Hinkel, completed the 197-mile course in 26 hours, 19 minutes, 25 seconds, winning its age group by nearly an hour.A Big Kick in the End from Washougal finished 14th among the 1,032 teams of 12 runners that finished the relay from Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood to Seaside, Ore. The Hot Tomales from Ridgefield placed second among teams of women 30-and-older (26:13:55). The Rockford Sole Sisters of Vancouver finished 10th in the women's open race (29:57:41). Masters of the Universe from Battle Ground placed seventh in the men's over-40 division. In the coed 30-and-older race, Team Headhunters 3 from Camas finished ninth, and Headhunters and Voodoo of Brush Prairie was 10th. Results for Hood to Coast teams registered from Clark County are in the Community Sports Scoreboard on Page B7. Results and highlights from the Portland to Coast Walk and High School Challenge will be published Sept. 5. Youth wins tennis title Alexander Wallace of Vancouver won the singles title for boys age 12 at the United States Tennis Association Pacific Northwest Section Junior Championships. Wallace defeated Jacob Imam from Redmond 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday's championship match at the Yakima Tennis Club. AAU baseball tourneys A total of 34 youth baseball teams from Washington and Oregon, many of them from Clark County, will participate in the AAU West Coast Nationals, which will be played Friday through Sunday at Delta Park in North Portland. Champions will be crowned at 2 p.m. Sunday in the 10-and-younger, 11-and-younger, and 12-and-younger age divisions. On Saturday, and Sunday, smaller tournaments for the 13-and-younger and 16U divisions will be played at Hare Field in Hillsboro. Most of the West Coast Nationals teams qualified through tournaments this summer. Teams that finish in the top eight at the West Coast Nationals qualify for the AAU Winter Nationals, or the 2007 AAU National Championships. Two teams from Vancouver's Demarini Baseball Academy reached the finals at a weekend tournament in Redding, Calif. The 11-and-younger Bulldogs beat the NorCal Sting 6-0 for the championship. In the 10-and-younger tournament, Demarini fell to the Solano Storm, 8-1, in the championship game. The tournament was held at the Big League Dreams park. Most of the teams were from northern California. Soccer team second The FC Vancouver Courage placed second Sunday in the girls under-11 division at the Chinook Cup soccer tournament. The tournament in Tigard included teams from the Northwest, Mexico, Canada and Ghana.
