Paper: Daily Astorian, The (Astoria, OR) Title: Seaside City Council approves next year's Hood to Coast relay Date: September 12, 2006 SEASIDE - The Seaside City Council approved the Hood to Coast relay for August 2007 in a 6-0 vote Monday. Councilor Diana Schafer opposed approval of the beer garden, and that was a 5-1 vote. Mayor Don Larson and Councilors Stubby Lyons, Don Johnson, Don McKay and Larry Haller voted in favor. Councilor Tim Tolan was absent.The Council accepted a $17,000 donation from relay organizer Bob Foote, which will be used for playground equipment in Cartwright Park. Foote has agreed to make a donation to the city each year in exchange for being allowed to have the relay. In other business, the Council:  Held a moment of silence in memory of the Sept. 11 attacks, and announced that Ken Jordan, a Planning Commission member for 12 years, has passed away. After the meeting, Larson described Jordan as a "very dedicated, wonderful member," and very active in the city;  Announced the vacancy on the Planning Commission, and three on the Promotions Committee;  Read an ordinance to vacate part of Avenues N and O and South Irvine Street east of U.S. Highway 101 to allow a business to be developed. Two-thirds of neighboring property owners have signed off on it. The Council will vote on the issue at the Sept. 25 meeting;  Thanked Gary Diebolt and the Seaside Downtown Development Association for a successful Wheels and Waves car show event. Larson proclaimed Sept. 10 through 16 as National Assisted Living Week, Sept. 17 to 23 as Constitution Week, Sept. 23 as Seaside Hall of Fame Day and Sept. 30 as National Estuary Day.
