Hi,
Anyone know how much time it will take to drive from downtown Portland to the starting line on Friday, and what to expect as far as traffic and parking? Thanks. |

We always plan on 2.5 hour including a Fred Meyer stop in Sandy. Gives plenty of time to shop, gas up and get to the start to hang out. I do recommend that you get to the start around 45 minute early. It will go by faster than you think and your runner may need bathroom time, etc. Better to have extra time and be prepared for something to slow you down then to miss your start.
Have fun! |

| There are also plenty of freebies you'll want to have time to check out and pick-up. That's one of the advantages of being in van 1. |

Most years we have come from Seaside and traffic in downtown (or at least passing through) Portland can be brutal. One year we got off the Interstate and went on surface streets and state highways and made very good time. I would have a back up plan ready if you are going through the city on the Interstate.
As Steve mentioned, give yourself plenty of time. Far better to get there early and have to wait around than to be rushed. Also, if you have a lot of first-timers, the start is a pretty cool experience.
Also, there is a good deal of things to do. Getting checked in, bathrooms, etc. We sort T shirts so that Van 2 gets them (Van 2 does not come to the start in our scheme). |
