SEEDING METHOD
Our software program computes a team's anticipated finish time using the 10K or pace times submitted from entry forms. If we have less than a full team registered, the anticipated finish time computed averages out a 10K or per mile pace based on those times submitted.
View our 10K Chart here!
Team anticipated finish times are sorted slowest to fastest and put into waves (groups) of approximately 22 participants. The purpose is to help ensure that every team in each wave finishes at approximately the same time.
Start times are assigned with slowest teams seeded for the first few waves. Our system then allows some of the faster teams to start who will eventually pass the slower teams.
Elite Hood To Coast teams start at 7:00 PM and are anticipated to finish first. However, there are still HTC start waves up until 7:45 PM. All teams are seeded to finish in Seaside by 9 PM, Saturday.
A random factor is also programmed into our seeding system. For example, a team with an anticipated finish time of 29 hours could receive a start time of 10:15 AM or 1:15 PM. And, a 27 hour team could receive a start time of 11:15 AM or 5:00 PM. We DO NOT make exceptions, take requests, or allow overt "sandbagging" in order to get a special start time.
Special requests for start times will not be accepted, sorry! Teams that elect to violate pre-assigned starting times will be disqualified and are subject to suspension from participating in the following year's race! |

LEG RATINGS
Having difficulty determining which leg to run/walk, or in assigning legs to your teammates? Check out our HTC Course Ratings or PTC Course Ratings. The ratings system takes into account both distance and elevation to assign legs 'Easy', 'Moderate', 'Hard', or 'Very Hard' based on the current race course.
