In order to ensure that trained Exchange Leaders are provided for the entire event and at all 35 Exchange Points, we offer 'local' teams a special opportunity. If your local team provides one strong individual to represent your team as a race 'Exchange Leader', your team requirement of providing three race volunteers will be waived! Volunteer
Requirements
Teams with one or more "local" members must provide three (3) volunteers for the race (van drivers do not count as volunteers).
"Local" teams are considered anywhere within this boundary: Local Volunteer Radius Map (Excluded from this requirement are teams that have EVERY team member living outside of this radius). Also see ZIP CODE CHECK.
Volunteers must be 18 years or olderand physically able to carry out their assigned duties.
Each volunteer works a shift 4-5 hours in length. They can indicate a preference of location (indicated within the online roster volunteer sign-up), but no location guarantees are made!
Volunteer assignments are first come first serve!
Jobs range from calling out race numbers
of incoming participants, to directing
traffic in the parking areas, to helping put up signs. Volunteers must be assertive and willing to work! No young children, dogs, headphones or alcohol allowed!
If a team volunteer is
assigned to the Finish Area, check in at the
Volunteer Check-in table located on the beach. Report for the
designated position, and fulfill the required
time commitment. Failure to do so will result
in team disqualification. (At the Finish, bring only what you can carry
- there is no check-in for belongings available).
Teams can register volunteers via the online roster, (May 1 - July 16). Volunteer jobs are chosen individually online, on a first come first serve basis. Volunteers receive an email notification once their assignment has been registered in the system.
Three types of jobs:
Volunteer: working at the exchange (various duties, i.e. calling out race numbers, parking race vans, garbage/recycling)
Volunteer Monitor: reports to exchange and then is given directions to drive (with one other monitor) to specific turn on course. Directs participants and van traffic at turn.
Equipment Sitter: stays at exchange with equipment between wave of walk and run.
All volunteers are to wear the official 'race official' volunteer t-shirt when they perform their job in the race. However, volunteers will still be accepted for their job if they don't have their Race Official shirt.
When a volunteer checks in at their position with the Exchange Leader, it's very important that they identify the Team Number of the team they are representing. At completion of the job, volunteers MUST check out with the Exchange Leader as well. Failure to properly check in/out will result in team disqualification.
